I am sure some of you are still getting settled in after move in week. Rob and I moved last week too. A spontaneous move into a cabin in the mountains!

Over the years I have collected various pieces for decorating, but it was obvious that we really needed some things. All of them were DIY projects I crushed in one long exhausting weekend. Here goes:

DIY soap dispensers

I am the type of person that doesn’t like moving on to another thing until the last one is completely finished. I had my mind on making these for a while and just HAD to finish them before even packing the first box. Here is the link I used for the DIY soap dispensers – http://theblissfullycontentlife.blogspot.com/2010/08/homemade-christmas-canning-jar-soap.html

I made one with all natural dish soap for the kitchen and all natural hand soap and lotion for the bathroom.

Thank goodness that’s out of the way. Now we need furniture.

Know what I love? Craigslist. You don’t have to make a few gas guzzling trips to huge department stores to spend hundreds, even thousands of dollars on cheaply made furnishings.

I found a sleeper couch, swivel rocking chair and dining room table and chairs, all matching, all solid oak….for $70 on Craigslist.

All I had to do was reupholster the cushions! (The perfect job for the vintage sewing machine I found a few weeks back on…wait for it…Craigslist!)

I made pillowcase-ish squares for each cushion with fabric that I got 40% off at a fabric store. (The total for fabric and misc tools for the sewing machine added up to $78 — always look online for coupons for DIY projects like this).

Have roommates? Chances are they would chip in some cash to help make the space sweet.
